Karine Chiasson is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice lies at the intersection of dance, theatre and puppetry. A choreographer, performer, actor, puppeteer and dance teacher, she is also deeply involved in cultural mediation. Her artistic language brings together body, rhythm, movement and theatricality.
For over 15 years, she has worked in the fields of dance and theatre. She is the co-founder and artistic director of Les Malchaussées, a Quebec-based contemporary percussive dance company.
Her artistic practice explores the musicality of the moving body, the theatricality of gesture and its evocative power. Puppetry naturally became part of this exploration, allowing her to investigate movement, presence and the relationship between performer, object and audience in new ways. As co-founder of L’Envolée de Valises, she created numerous puppet-based activities, roving performances and shows. Today, she continues this artistic journey by bringing these creations to life in new ways, so that their characters can continue to delight and inspire audiences of all ages.
Through her projects, presented on stage and in public spaces across Quebec and internationally, Karine seeks to break down boundaries between disciplines, make the arts more accessible and create vibrant, meaningful and deeply human artistic experiences.
