Subvertige

Mélina Kerhoas explores the realm of Subvertige, where puppetry and street art intertwine. In her quest to make the ordinary extraordinary, she designs, builds, and manipulates creatures of all sizes, for her own projects as well as for other companies. Balancing innocence and fascination, her characters evoke laughter, tenderness, and a refreshing sense of the improbable.

Trained in contemporary puppet theatre at UQAM, her practice is rooted in shadow theatre and low-tech optical devices. She develops her characters through a vocabulary informed by clowning: a sensibility that imbues her work with offbeat humor, vivid visual poetry, and subtle technical precision.

Blending street, imagination, and clowning puppetry, she creates vibrant appearances that invite audiences to slip into a slightly parallel universe.
